Here is the itinerary of my 2 week trip to Peru, in case you’re planning a trip soon! When I plan a trip I like to look at different itineraries online and recommendations, to put together the perfect trip for me. In 2 weeks you will be able to visit different regions of Peru, although of course you will always feel like you needed more time to travel and explore (like with all trips), and even more so in a country so rich in archeological sites and amazing landscapes.

Thursday (travel day):
I took a night flight from Houston, TX and arrived in Lima, Peru, Friday morning.

Friday (Day 1):
We arrived Friday morning to the Lima airport, where we took an official taxi to our hotel in the Miraflores neighborhood. Since we arrived before the check-in hour, we had to pay extra so we could do early check-in and rest. That first day we took it easy and just walked around the neighborhood and went to the beach.

Saturday (Day 2):
We traveled to Cusco in the afternoon. Since Cusco is 3,400 m high (11,200 ft), it is better to stay in town the first day to acclimatize to the altitude. I recommend you buy soroche (mountain sickness) pills in Lima before traveling to Cusco to help with the altitude change.

Sunday (Day 3):
We took a tour around the Sacred Valley with the agency “Responsible”. The tour lasts the whole day. They pick you up at a meeting point in a van, and then take you to the bus you do the tour in. The tour includes a lunch and they take you to all the important places in the Sacred Valley, which is a must when you travel to Cusco.

Monday (Day 4):
Day trip to Machu Picchu – we took a taxi from the hotel to the bus terminal, the bus trip lasts around 1 hour and then transfers to a train that takes you directly to Cusco. We spent the whole day in MP, and used the same route for the return. I recommend you buy the entry tickets to MP before traveling: it can be crowded during high season.

Tuesday (Day 5):
Day to visit around Cusco – Visit to the cathedral and other museums. Cusco is a really pretty city and it’s worth walking around and visiting.

Wednesday (Day 6):
We took a 10 hour bus ride, with the company Inka Express, to get to the city of Puno and visit Lake Titicaca from there. The trip included stops at small villages on our way to Puno and lunch at a restaurant they had previously reserved.

Thursday (Day 7):
Tour around different historial Inca sights in the region with a local agency, All Ways Travel. We also walked around the village of Puno a bit, however, our initial plan was to travel that same day to the Lake Titicaca and spend the night there with a local family. Unfortunately I got sick and we had to move the trip to the next day. Puno is not the prettiest city to visit, so I don’t recommend spending a lot of time there.

Friday (Day 8):
Tour around the Lake Titicaca – Tour around the artificial Uros Islands. After we took a tour around the Taquile Island, the biggest island on the Peruvian side, we then had a Peruvian lunch prepared by a local family on a terrace with amazing views. We traveled back to Lima that same day, we took a taxi from Puno to the airport in the city of Juliaca. We arrived to Lima at night and headed directly to our hotel.
